We regret to report the passing of John J. Boyle. John died in April of 2009 at age 76. John was a career educator who was a pioneer in place-based education. I can attest from experience that John Boyle’s Salem field trips in conjunction with our study of Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Scarlet Letter and the House of Seven Gables gave thousands of Andover High School students an intellectual passion for the integration of history and literature.
John Boyle was the reason that I became a teacher. Throughout my career John always served as my role model. I am proud to be a Boyle scholar.
