1.) Gable – The triangle end of a wall under a roof forming of two sloping planes. |

2.) Gambrel – A ridged roof with two slopes on each side, the lower slope having a steeper pitch, ex. a barn roof |

3.) Hip – A roof with all four sides meeting at the top | |
4.) Square on Hip – A hip with all four sides forming a square on the top of the roof |

5.) Mansard – A steep, almost vertical roof usually with dormer windows enclosing the top floor. |

6.) Saltbox – A gabled roof in which the rear slope is much longer than the front. |
