Kevin McMullen was an exemplary teacher at Belmont (MA) High School and an important advocate for primaryresearch.org.
Kevin was a 1959 graduate of Newton High School. Upon graduation he entered the United States Navy. After fulfilling his military obligation he attended Boston State College where he starred on the basketball team coached by Celtic legend Jim Loscutoff. Kevin reeived a Masters Degree from Northeastern University. McMullen taught at Belmont High Shool for over 30 years. He was director of the Belmontonian Club – a program in which Belmont students spent part of their school day volunteering their time to help the less fortunate. He was also the director of Belmont High’s Close-Up Foundation through which students participated in a hands-on approach to government for a week in Washington D.C. each year.
In 2003 Kevin was the receipient of the United States Presidential Scholar Award, which was presented to him by former First Lady Barbara Bush at the White House.
During his 30 years at Belmont High School, Kevin coached girls softball, boys basketball, baseball, and soccer.
Kevin was an outstanding golfer. He was a member of the Quechee Country Club in Quechee, VT and the Pine Hills Country Club in Plymouth, MA.
Kevin will always be remembered fondly. He was a unique individual who lived by the motto “A man never stands so tall as when he stoops to help a child.”
He is survived by his lovely wife Joyce. Kevin and Joyce shared 38 years of marriage.
