1/21/2016~ John Boyle was best teacher I ever had & my most unforgettable character. For sophomore English @ Andover High School, the skills, protocol & unofficial lessons learned have proven to be of lifetime value. It seemed John taught because he wanted to & not out of financial need, as he bought a new Oldsmobile every year. He caught or noticed all that went on & was “sharp as a tack”, as he would say, for the purpose of taking personal interest in students progress & areas of concern. John could be tough as required & then softer once he was certain what needed to be performed was understood, explained by him as same as your parents. No detention for not doing homework, instead you were to report back to John @ 2:15 PM in room 222 for direct consultation or fear of God imparted. There were great lines such as “kissed the Blarney Stone”.
Senior Class play directed by John was a class act, with catered party @ season end put on out of John’s pocket. Shortly after graduation from AHS, cronies & I visited the Dairy Queen in Beverly, MA to see if it was true that John worked the counter in Summer. John was glad to see us, asked usual probing questions without judgment, made our order & would not accept payment. His lessons had paid off & that was good enough.
