It is with great sadness that we report the death of Ashley Speicher. Ashley was a 2003 Beverly High School graduate. While attending Beverly High School, Ashley distinguished herself both academically and in a number of school activities. Ashley demonstrated an aptitude and interest in political science as an outstanding student in W. Dean Eastman’s Government class and a participant in Close-Up Foundation’s Washington, D.C. program. After graduating from BHS, Ashley attended Westfield State College as a political science major, where she seved as a journalist for The Voice. She obtained her Bachelors of Science Degree Magna Cum Laude at Southern New Hampshire University in 2007. It was here where she served as the President of the University’s Ambassador. She travled to New Orleans in 2005 and 2006 to aid in relief from Hurricane Katrina and volunteered at the Red Cross and Kid’s Club. Ashley was accepted in UMASS Dartmouth’s Masters Program in Administrative Social Work to begin this fall. She was awarded the Youth Leadership Award for her extensive volunteer work for those with disabilities. Ashley was crowned Miss Wheelchair Massachusetts in 2009.
In 1997 Ashley was the recipient of a heart transplant that triggered her compassionate advocay and support for those with disabilities. She’ll be remembered always as a kind and generous friend to those in need.
